Grandfathers Medals

Happy to get these today...Ecstatic to say the least! My Grandma has finally decided that she has had these long enough and sent them to me.

I will probably get the medals court mounted and add his patches and other paraphernalia that I already have to the display. The tag in the middle has some obvious errors and will need to be replaced anyways. The medals were mounted by a friend of Joe's back in the mid-eighties and the errors bothered me the entire time...Gramps did not seem to mind though and never got it corrected. Also missing the overseas bar on the CVSM...Gramps misplaced it somewhere between 1945 and the eighties.

Congratulations on obtaining your grandfathers medals. I am certain the feeling is that much deeper having received them from your grandmother, as opposed to another family member.

Congratulations. Things from your grandpa are very special. Funny how they tend to hang on to it for a long time, although that only increases your happiness when you do get them.

Well, I found out why Gramps never got the errors corrected...the case had so much glue holding the wood backing panels in that the case would have to be torn apart and destroyed. Good thing for those roto-zip tools we have now though...zipped right through all the decades old glue and managed to save the case.

Also found that the medals were held in place with a small dab of glue...almost looks like the kind used with those little heat guns. Along with that, the medal displayed backwards, the error filled plaque, and missing overseas bar...things are not that bad I guess.

Finally got the medals cleaned and court mounted...now to find a decent shadow box!

Awesome to hear you got your Grandfathers medals, I remember when I got my great Grandfather's ww1 medals... just want to see his helmet, apparently looks like it got opened up by a piece of shrapnel.
