Canadian Mk 2 helmet Empty Canadian Mk 2 helmet

Post by LSR Thu Nov 25, 2010 1:18 pm

This is one of my mk 2 helmets.Nothing really spectacular, but its a nice "been there" helmet whit some evedence of white wash(I think).
There is a number inside the helmet (H 510483) and WR.
WR could stand for Winnipeg Rifles since it is a Manitoba number, but it could also be the previous owners initials.
Now I've got a question:is it possible to link the number to a regiment?

Hmmm, does anyone have any photos of a white washed MkII helmet in use by Canadians or Brits? I've seen white cloth covers but don't believe I've seen white wash before. At least nothing that comes to mind at the moment.

Yes, to an extent. H510483 is listed as a "100th CMTC (2nd Bn, QOCH of Canada)" number. This isn't a 100% guide as this is the unit the man enlisted into. If he transferred to a different he would keep the same number.

I will take a look through my files and see what I can find. There are a couple of well known photographs showing Canadian Medics in Europe wearing MK IIs painted white with red crosses.

    Thanks Rob,
It looks like you are interested in the RCA,I have another Mk2 helmet in my collection with a decal of the 4med RCA,a number and initials. The helmet was left behind in the village were I live.
Do you think it is possible to find the name of the previous owner?

Possibly if you are lucky, but probably not easy. What is the number and initials? You never know your luck!

Looks like a MD 1 Windsor Ontario enlistment. Arnie Kay could turn up your guy with the serial number.

Great helmet by the way...where did you find it?
