Blancoed p.37 webbing Empty 1937 Pattern Names

Post by edstorey Mon Aug 11, 2014 8:43 am

When discussing 1937 Pattern Web, there are: Braces (L&R), Brace Attachments, Shoulder Straps (L&R), Supporting Straps, Basic Pouches and Cartridge Carriers. I have no idea what L/R support braces and ammo/patrol pouches are!

Is it that difficult to use the correct names?

Blancoed p.37 webbing Empty I Love That RCN NATO Terminology

Post by edstorey Mon Aug 11, 2014 10:15 am

In your defence, by the time the 1937 Pattern Web got catalogued with NATO Stock Numbers in the early 1960s, it seems the Canadian cataloguer was calling everything with a web strap a sling! This was unfortunate as the terminology had been set back in the late 1930s.

Yes Ed you are correct with the NATO designation numbers but I know better and as we were discussing war time issued kit or at least I think we were I should have used the right terminology and not tried to take a lazy short cut .
Again my apologies as we should use the right terminology when addressing kit and or items that were issued to are armed forces no matter what the topic of discussion.

    Kind regards Mark

Young collector It is all good Ed is not bashing me he is 100% correct and I am at fault and should have used the right terminology from the beginning as stated I know better and was being lazy typing as I was in a hurry he was well with in his rights to correct me as if we do not use the correct terminology when addressing items and or military kit it can and or will leave to confusion and this is something we don't want and or need on the forum thank you for your concern though.
