Sand finish Mk2? Empty Sand finish Mk2?

Post by sixxpackjack Sat Sep 29, 2012 2:27 pm

    Hi folks,

Im looking for a bit info on a helmet I picked up a couple of months ago. Im pretty new collecting with a focus on pins/badges and medals. Ive pretty much hit a wall here with my research. I THINK I have a WW2 Mk2 helmet with a sand finish. There are no markings on the inside of the helmet itself that I can see. The paint is quite thick. The sand appears to thicker and courser than other examples that I have seen. The chin strap is Canadian as is the liner, both with broadhead C marks. My question is: is the shell paint original. If so could I possibly narrow down a theater/nation or unit which may have used such a finish?

It is difficult to say when the helmet was painted.
The paint looks authentic to me,there is some rust and aging.
The chinstrap looks British to me.
I've seen all sorts of paint on helmets that where left behind here in Holland.
But there also quit a lot of countries who used these helmets immadiately after WW2,so who knows.

Thank You for your reply. I never thought much about post war issue. But Im starting to think that this might be the case. Either way its made a nice addition to my small, but slowly growing collection.

Again thank you for you opinion!
    Cheers party2
