    A new BBC series:

    Dig WW2

"We have just finished an interesting week in Italy working on the Monte Cassino section of the forthcoming BBC series Dig WW2. We went with our presenter, Dan Snow, to follow a group of Italian Archaeologists – the Gustav Line Group. They organised two digs on sections of the Hitler Line, the last line of defence before Rome, captured by Canadian troops in May 1944. With combat at the bunkers taking place over a very short space of time – in some cases less than an hour of fighting – we wondered whether anything would remain. We needn’t have worried as the group showed their professionalism and were able to unearth a substantial archaeological record of the fighting, with some amazing artefacts being uncovered. The full dig will be covered in the series, and we have some video podcasts we will add to the web in due course."

Thank you for bringing this to attention. Took interest in the Battles at Monte Cassino recently and I will be reading the book you posted. Looking forward it. This is one of the very interesting battle grounds during the war and a fascinating example of resilience, courage, sacrifice and determination for our freedom. These Soldiers are amazing. I found original clips, maps, battle strategies and interview of survivors searching Monte Cassino on the web.
Took many different searches to find more information in cross referencing that not all any one resource had.
    Thank you again.

My Great uncle Hubert Joseph Snow was at Monte Casino in the Canadian infantry. He was in Ortonia and worked his way over. US General Mark Clark was in charge of this operation.

I know a guy that lives in Cassino, if anyone has any specific questions or would like maybe pictures of Canadian locations, I can ask him for you, he is a local historian there. If anyone has any photos from the time I am sure he would really appreciate seeing them. Last he offered me a tour next time I was over, he is passionate about the history of his town so I am sure he would offer others a tour too
